problems with keyboard and Slackware 9.1

I finally correctly installed Slackware 9.1 as it's the only distro to my knowledge that works nicely with my Linksys Instant Wireless card
so when I boot it, it looks like it's working and my keyboard is fine as long as I press a character, but as soon as it loads the USB stuff, my keyboard doesn't work anymore, I get down to a screen that says

Welcome to Linux 2.4.22 (tty1)

darkstar login: (blinking cursor) but I can't type anything and it won't let me log in, any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Luckily it's a dual boot so I can goto Windows 2000 for now. but I want to use Slackware

I had a problem similar to that with a 92 dollar usb keyboard(that was neat looking) except I was getting "usb_control/bulk_msg:timeout" and "device refuses to accept new address" messages at boot. also, it would cause my usb mouse to no longer function. turns out no one else can get the same usb keyboard working in linux(but works in xp *curse*) either. I tried using different usb modules and still wouldn't work.

Do you have a USB keyboard or a PS2 keyboard?

I ran into this a while back trying to install Slack on a older box. I disabled GPM and it fixed the problem. Boot off of your install CD #1 login cd to /etc/rc.d type chmod -x rc.gpm. reboot pull the CD out and see if that fixes it.

I did a fresh install of Slackware and didn't install the gpm packages and it worked like a charm but my wireless card didn't work like a charm so I will have to fix that later

Hi everyone!!!

I've instaled Slackware in my Presario 2100 Laptop.
To Fix The Problem Just Turn Off the USB support in your BIOS, Don't worry
At Least the Keyboard will work, I don't know If The Mouse will work 'Cos I'm using an old Microsotf PS2 Intellimouse
