Problems setting up HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer

Hi,

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer that's been working perfectly until recently.

A few days ago I've reinstalled Slackware64 14.1 on my main workstation. Now I want to setup the printer, and I can't seem to do it anymore.

Slackware 14.1 is shipping HPLIP in version 3.13.10. I checked on the HPLIP website, and curiously enough, the printer doesn't seem to be listed in that exact denomination anymore. What I get with running hp-setup is a "PPD not found" error.

So I upgraded HPLIP and built the latest version from source. I ran hp-setup again, but still no luck.

Printers. I hate them with a passion.

Any suggestions?

I think that cups has the ppd file.

Did you make sure CUPS was running? I had a similar problem setting up an HP printer that was corrected once I made sure cups was running. I was setting up a wireless printer and as soon as I made sure cups was running the printer showed right up in manage printers. I didn't even need to try using hplip again to set it up.
