Problems booting and logging ing(Pam?)

Hello,
I'm having a great deal of problems booting my slackware 10 machine. It crashed on me yesterday and hasn't booted properly since. I thought it may have something to do with a corrupted FS(I use reiser) but I used an 8.1 cd to fsck it and everything is cool. After I checked the file system it began to actually let me log in but gives me seg faults when using ls and says I don't have a home directory. I believe the problem my be with PAM because I get an error from it when trying to log in. Also, on boot my ethernet card is put into promiscuous mode about twenty times. I realize there is a really small chance of someone being able to help because I can't post error messages, but if you have any idea post it. I don't care what it is. I have everything on this machine and I need to fix it, if only temporarily.

can you log in under single user mode, init level 1?

Yeah, but it gives me even more problems. It lets me log in and gives me more error messages about PAM. An important thing is that programs such as ls, rm, mv, and other basic, vital things seg fault. I have tried to connect to the internet but it says that I need to kill dhcpcd or remove the /etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd.pid file or something but none of my commands work. If someone could attach a copy of rm to a post I may be able to use a floppy because I can still mount. Once I get links working I believe someone here will know what's going on because I can post the exact error messages.

What about killing PAM? How do I do it? All suggestions are welcome. I really need to get this computer fixed within a day or two.

Thanks.

Slackware doesn't use PAM, unless you installed it yourself or are using dropline gnome.

It's from dropline, but I don't believe it has any bearing on the situation.

I don't think it has anything to do with PAM at all now. I think my machine has been cracked and now I just have to wait for the iso to finish downloading so I can burn it and do a clean install. I just hope being connected for six hours won't have too much of an effect.
