If I change the focus by using the tab key instead of the mouse with zenity with scim running, I get the following error messages:

An IOException occurred at scim_bridge_client_imcontext_set_cursor_location ()
I have SCIM now set up as simply as possible and otherwise find it works well. It does finish the job with zenity, after blocking and pausing for about 10-20 seconds.
I start scim -d in the .xinitrc script before starting the window manager or any other tasks.
I do not set any environment variables but leave it to the default settings. i.e.:
