Problem with sound

i just finished compiling my 2.6.5 kernel again and finally got the ethernet card working. the last problem i'm having is with sound. i have a creative modem blaster v.90 d15660 sound card and when i check dmesg this is the output i have :

isapnp: Scanning for Pnp cards
isapnp: Card 'Creative Modem Blaster V.90 D15660'
isapnp: 1 Plug and Play card detected total

no sound though. anybody have any suggestions?

Try to unmute the 'Master' in alsamixer and then:

#alsactl store

tried to run alsamixer from the CLI and its giving me this error:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device
