Just my 2 cents, but...

My post on enabling DRI was written/done on a i810, which has since died a horrible death. I bought a Dell w/915gm, put the old hdd in there, and it worked. Perfectly.

Check my kernel config and xorg.conf in my dri post (link in sig)

the only differences i notice in the xorg.conf is the module sections..

what are dri-old.* ?

shouldn't you just be loading dri?

anyways, this then almost certainly a .config problem? (I'd trust cwwilson's advice on this)

I can send you my .config but it sounds like cwwilson has one linked in his sticky for the 915gm, and there is one linked above (a gentoo .config) that is for your exact same (or very close) machine iirc.

if kubuntu can properly read your vbios than clearly something is missing in your kernel that would otherwise let the i810 xorg driver read it.

my advice would be to go the link I posted above, get the .config from the gentoo guy and run a makeoldconfig, try it out and see if it works.

if it does then if you are interested in learning run diff their.config my.config > somename

Hello,

Now i'm using the kernel .config from http://konsistent.de/wiki/doku.php?i...c:latitude110l , with make oldconfig. Now after startx, I get a blank screen. lsmod returns nothing (i think that's ok, everything it's built-in in the kernel).

bioe007, have you post your .config previosly? If not, can you do that, please?

cwwilson721, when point to the link of your .config at your post about dri, i get file not found error. Can you post it here?

Here's the log of xorg, xorg.conf remains the same :

Code:

_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/japetus:0

i think your problem is in xorg.conf..

Quote:

(II) UnloadModule: "dri-old.libdri"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/dri-old.libdri.so

have a look at mine (above) or anyone else's.. i've never seen dri-old* modules.. I think you should get rid of all the dri-old modules being loaded in xorg.conf, and just load "dri"

it seems your kernel is now properly reading the vbios (at least well enough to run X, as you're not erroring out due to no drivers.

you are _very_ close I think.

my .config is too long to post here in one message. I'll PM you and send it that way...

<edit> ack.. you don't have pm'ing enabled on your acct... PM me and then I'll send .config back to you.

Again, with bioe007 xorg.conf, the same blankscreen.
Heres the log:

http://www.simetriade.xpg.com.br/files/xorgbioe007.log

As I said, i have two entrys in lspci that are making me confuse:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)

On my desktops, I only have one entry for the video device. And in the X log file, there is:

(WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found

Shall I have two devices sections in xorg.conf?

this is ok/normal mine is the same.

did something change in your kernel? the bad vbios warnings are back.. I had thought those were fixed? <edit, guess not, they're right there 2posts up>

I dont think the link you posted is to your current Xorg.0.log problem, cause it doesn't contain the EE (or did you not append that?)

another thing to try, in lilo.conf:
Code:
append="pci=assign-busses"

Hello,

I made it work. After hours hours of kernel compiling, i decided to reinstall once again. But, instead of huge26.s, i choosed test26.s. After a clean install, i had the same problem with acpi, but passed acpi=off as a parameter. Then, startx worked!!! So, I went to /testing, installed the source and copied the config from /boot and added smp support to get rid of the acpi problem. Recompiled and booted, now i'm here with X working and the battery indicator at my tray.

I did diff on my several .config, and noticed a few differences. First, the framebuffer suport it's built-in, but not the Intel one, only vesa. I tried that before, as bioe007 said. One difference that made me think is the I2C section in Device Drivers. My other .config looked like this :

Code:
#
# I2C Hardware Bus support
#
# CONFIG_I2C_ALI1535 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_ALI1563 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_ALI15X3 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_AMD756 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_AMD8111 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_I801 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_I810 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_PIIX4 is not set
# CONFIG_I2C_NFORCE2 is not set
Now, CONFIG_I2C_I801 is set as module. And agpgart, drm and i915, everything as a module. I'll post the .config somewhere and paste the link here. Probably, there are other differences. Thanks everyone for helping!!!!
