Problem with Icecat install, No Icon to launch program. Slackware64, why is this?
I have installed icecat 17.0.1 three times via slackbuilds etc. I always have an error while installing : variable sink set but not used. I can't install the pkg with installpkg as it won't recognize the tar.gz, and the other way won't work as there is no config file in the pkg. The "installed" icecat works fine if I run it from the command line. why no launch icon? I am using xfce. Forgive the ignorance, I have used linux for 8+yrs, but Slackware linux has always been a side project, now it is my main operating system. what am I doing wrong? thanks in advance for any help.

You should be able to make a launcher for the panel, then edit the launcher 'properties' to reference icecat.
I think XFCE is pretty vanilla, and not so integrated into Slackware that it would detect installation of unofficial packages automatically. Not sure though. Just curious, how long did your machine take to compile Icecat? My 2.33GHz T7600 takes around two hours! |

I was not using KDE. I installed various versions of Icecat on both 13.37 and 14.0.
XFCE and xmonad for GUIs. I think it's the sheer size of Icecat that makes the compiler take so long. Conversely, something like LibreOffice (while much larger) is more self-contained and rolls together really fast. |
