I am currently finishing my slackware 11.0 installation on IBM thinkpad 600E. I would like to get on the internet however no such luck. I have a 3com model 3CCFE575BT which slackware did seem to load the module for because i dmesg and found under pci information the model number of this pcmcia card. i also ran netconfig(dhcp setting mainly) and then ran ifconfig eth0 up.
started X and found under KDE control center showed that the Eth0 interface was active. I opened mozilla and no web page, tried konqeror nothing. so is there something i am forgetting to do. the lights on my dongle are on and the lights on the dsl modem are blinking. if you have any help i would greatly appreciate it.

Reason: //moderator changes thread title to read "Problem with 3Com 3CCFE575BT on IBM thinkpad 600E". Please use common sense next time. TIA.
funny you are the first person to ever post to me with just help me as the subject. oh well, my ifconfig eth0 up had no output. However, my ifconfig output now looks like this
eth0 Link encap:ethernet HWaddr:00:50:04:b5:5c:b7
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 fram:0
TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:4
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0,0 b) TX bytes:2360 (2,3 KiB)
Interrupt:11 Base address:0x4000
lo Link encap:local loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 fram:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0,0 b) TX bytes:0(0,0 b)
I guess it is a good thing because its showing the irq and base address even the mac address of my ethernet card but once i go into KDE still not working with internet browsers.
Under the control panel for KDE the eth0 is enabled but you cannot save. when you do it hangs on trying to save or restart the module/server.
Maybe your dhcp server or firewall/router is down or not configured for dhcp. Try a static ip and then try pinging something like:
ifconfig eth0 up 192.168.0.69 ,then
ping 192.168.0.1
well for your information I only have one ethernet connection from my modem. I switch between my windows box, apple box, and linux laptop. (too cheap to go and get a hub right now.) As far as i know all my settings under the modem for DHCP are turned on because thats how my windows and apple box connect through DHCP. I will try those commands and see if I get any where.

Well i am on my linux laptop after i ran
ifconfig eth0 up
than ran
dhcpcd
and ran ifconfig to see if anything happened and yippe i had an ip address. thanxs for all your help. I will keep my ethernet setup manual because i will rarly use it since my laptop will mostly be used for djing. however when i am at home i will use it there.
