Problem in shell
hello
I have a problem with the shell. Randomly when I go out of KDE, Shell appears with characters ineligible. Not always!
When used the Slack13.0 not the case that. It happens now using Slack 13.1b.
Fresh installation of slackware13.1b; did not update ...

I believe it's to do with your video driver. Which one are you using?

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.24-pkg1.run
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.15-pkg1.run
I've used both in stable Slack 13.0 ,and does not occur ...
Thanks for the reply
ps: video = > Nvidia 9500GT

hmm, it happened to me a few times in the past (also with nvidia binary drivers). What I usually did was reinstall the driver and the problem went away. The 36.24-pkg1 version seems to be the latest for 32-bit versions of linux. Try reinstalling it and have a look at some notes about configuring it:
http://blog.tpa.me.uk/2010/04/09/con...-on-slackware/
See what happens

Try to type 'reset' and press <Enter>.
However, this is really a bug.

This happens with nvidia.
You could try setting vga=normal in lilo.conf that usually fixes it

I do not know much about linux...
I think it would be interesting to know which distributions,
using the kernel2.6.33.4 , and see if the same happens with the drivers from Nvidia ...
Because if not, then it is something related to the Slack13.1b ...
thanks

So far, I have had no problems related to the subject of the topic (so far no problem with shell) ...
If the problem appears again, try this version of Nvidia drivers ...
Intuitively, I think, perhaps some "instability" at the moment I do logout in KDE, and I'm going to shell ...
I do not think that is related to the video driver, because, apart from that, the X works fine ...
many thanks :-)

That is because some X application(s) printed out garbage on the text console. The video state is ok but the virtual terminal's state is wrong for you. Just "reset".

This has been a known problem with nvidia drivers for many versions now. The driver messes up the framebuffer console and nvidia haven't been bothered to try fix it (if it is down to them to do it and not x.org)
I will try that driver version though to see if it works for me too.

Right!
On the other hand (perhaps stubbornness & curiosity, my), after which disabled it,
Nepomuk Semantic Desktop ,so far, I have had no problems ...
Wait a little longer, then the problem returns, I will use the alternatives ...
many thanks :-)

Hello
Well ... My suspicion is wrong! I mean, disable "Nepomuk Semantic Desktop",
does not solve the problem.
Then tested the method indicated above, for
sycamorex .
http://blog.tpa.me.uk/2010/04/09/con...-on-slackware/
I used the driver :
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.15-pkg1.run
Also did not work! :-(
My xorg.conf
Code:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder75) Fri Mar 12 01:44:55 PST 2010
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
