Angry Problem booting Slack 9.0

i have a toshiba tecra8000 laptop Im trying to migrate to slack from red hat and when i install slack and everything seems fine i load lilo and pick bare-i kernal when i reboot system with no cd in drive it goes to a blinking cursor and freezes up any idea?

It sounds like lilo is not even attempting to load. At least you are not getting the old grub loader from Redhat. It might however be attempting to load grub if you installed lilo to the partition, like /dev/hda1. Perhaps installing lilo to the MBR would work better, /dev/hda. (without a partition number)
