Printer Epson L555 CUPS/driver for Slackware

Hi everybody,

Is there a driver for the printer Epson L555 for Linux Slackware?

I thank you all in advance.

Welcome to LQ!

Your printer is supported. http://www.openprinting.org/printer/...on-L555_Series

To install the driver in Slackware will take a little work. I suggest converting the appropriate rpm package for your architecture as detailed here. http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:har...r_installation

You may also need to create an appropriate symlink as discussed here. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...0/#post4886306

Thank you very much!
I followed your suggestion and now my epson L555 works like a charm from my notebook (Slackware 14.0).
However, I am still trying to figure what to do regarding my desktop, running Slackware 12.0.

Glad you got it working.

I am curious. Did you need to create a symlink?

As far as Slackware 12.0 goes, rpm2txz was not available IIRC. Perhaps rpm2tgz instead?

I downloaded the RPM binary (x86 32bit, in my case) from the site
http://www.openprinting.org/printer/...on-L555_Series, and proceeded as follows.

For Slackware 14.0:
- Converted to txz using rpm2txz;
- Installed with installpkg (pkgtool also works);
- Needed to create the symlink (ln -s /lib/ld-2.15.so /lib/ld-lsb.so.3);
- When configuring CUPS, I had to choose the correct PPD file (through the option "Provide a PPD File") from the right place (in my case, from the file: /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201207w/ppds/Epson/Epson-L555_Series-epson-driver.ppd.gz)

For Slackware 12.0:
- Converted to tgz using rpm2tgz;
- Installed with installpkg (pkgtool also works);
- Needed to create the symlink (ln -s /lib/ld-2.7.so /lib/ld-lsb.so.3);
- While configuring CUPS, I had to choose the correct PPD file (through the option "Provide a PPD File") from the right place (in my case, from the file: /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201207w/ppds/Epson/Epson-L555_Series-epson-driver.ppd.gz)

Alternatively to converting the RPM archive and installing the txz (or tgz) by using installpkg, one can extract the files (directly from the RPM binary) to the correct place as required by the PPD file, and configuring CUPS as above.

My Epson L555 printer is now working fine under both Slackware 14.0 and Slackware 12.0, but I have not used the scan facility yet.

Thanks a lot!
