I re-added my HP network laser printer to find that hplip didn't work with the new cups package.
Using the default driver from the cups interface resulted in a lot of extra black where the page should have been blank. Manually re-adding the printer using the driver hplip was trying to use resulted in a properly working printer.

I had the same problem (extra black page when printing), and i got it fixed by installing the latest hplip and then re-adding the printer again through CUPS web page.

I found some patches for the gcc to fix compiling the version in --current we had last week. I put that back in for now. I sent Mr. V the patches just in case. I have my network printer working now on --current (at latest packages) as of tonight.

But my problem is related to USB permissions, not unproper printing.

I am also getting the same error mentioned above. My usb printer is not working now since the latest -current upgrade.
Agreed with the guy before, it appears to be a USB ownership issue. Not sure if it's the kernel, compiler, or new CUPS version.
>dmesg

smoooth103, unload usblp module or remove it from kernel.
My printer is HP DeskJet 840C.
Today upgrade of hplip hasn't changed anything.

have you tried to remove your printer and re-adding it again?
My printer at the office is HP LaserJet 1300 and it worked again after i deleted the printer from CUPS Web admin and re-add it again

That did the trick. Rmmod'd usblp and all is well. Am still trying to track down where the USBLP module is in the kernel .config -- will keep looking.
Thanks!
