prerequisite for apache2

hey guys, i am thinking of upgrading or instaling apache2 side by side with apache1. what are the prerequisites for this upgrade?

-do i need to re-compile php? php4 can stay, don't care much for php5

not sure what else i'm missing.

reason for doing this is because i want to proxy squirrelmail that is on another box but it is not open to public other than its mail server. apache1 can do proxy but does not support cookies that is required by squirrelmail. at the moment, squirrelmail is setup on my webserver to connect to the mail server via imap (loads slow when you have over 2000 msgs).

thanks for the help.

I don't have an answer for you but I'm curious to know too. I had compiled apache2.2 a couple of weeks ago but could not get php5 to compile as a module. I wanted to replace apache on my server with apache2.

I searched the net but i couldn't find any clear answers. I finally gave up and i'm back to apache 1.3 series. I would like to know if more experienced slackware users here have any tips. I'll try again this weekend if I have time.

Tux,

Ok well I did this over the weekend and it went pretty well except the proxy was not included in the compile. For php all that was needed to be done was to make sure --with-apxs2 is used instead of --with-apxs. I saw a website that will compile the proxy module seperately, so I will be doing that soon enough. I used the slackbuil from linuxpackages for apache2 and the slackbuild from slackware for php4.
