Question PPPOE peculiar situation


slackware 13.1 fully installed .
2 network cards .
pppoe connection .

pppoe-setup(scripts setup/start/stop/....all ok) configured the main files .
BUT when i run "pppoe-start" and get connected to my provider i can't ping outside, i can't ping the network interfaces, i can't ping even the loopback interface .

i can't ping. Everything gets halted . if i shut down each interface and then enable each one , everything is still halted.
a reboot does the trick.

does anyone have any idea what is happening ? some help ?

i am new to pppoe, though i used to configure pppd for dialup ~10years ago . it seems/i think pppoe uses pppd and i suppose its configuration variables changed a lot since then .

I've DSL internet (default gateway of 192.168.1.254)

I've never PPPOE but I have PPPD and ppp0 is that what interface it (dialup) was, ppp0

I *do* remember that the route changed drastically when pppd came on and brought up the ppp0 interface and then the route would revert back upon ppp-off (or disconnect from dialup ISP)

So, if you feel inclined, you might do a before and after route command and post command output here so the gurus can chuckle about how far off of track I was while they steer you a bit closer to where you need to go <grin>.

I had the same problem, reinstalled rp-pppoe and pppoe and no problem since then.

i have an idea about the weird thing that is happening and i am going to solve it.
