PPPD how do I know what to put in the script?

Hey I have been seaching but no found the answer to my question... shouldnīt be too complicated.

I have been trying to setup pppd so that I can connect to the net without using kppd. I went though the kpppsetup.

To setup the script I assumed that my ISP sends

Login:
then
Password:

as I wasnīt sure if it had a capital or not I put assword: and ogin: it dialed but didnīt connect so I assume that is not exactly what the ISP sends...

Is there any easy way to see EXACTLY what my ISP sends so that I can setup the script correctly??

One way to find out what is going on is to check your logs, either after the event:

cat /var/log/messages

or while it is happening:

tail -f /var/log/messages

Opening a second console (eg, Ctrl-Alt F2) to run tail in might make things easier.

if you know your ISP's DNS addresses you can use pppsetup to configure ppp. Then in an xterm just type ppp-on and ppp-off to connect an disconnect. If you want dynamic DNS you'll ahve to dig a little depper. I finally rewrote pppsetup so that it does dynamic DNS. You only have to know phone#, username, password and modem port. If you can't get pppsetup tp work I'll send a link to my ISPSETUP script.

Hey MichaelHall I tried that tail -f /var/log/messages and it worked well only I get an error after it connects:

LCP: timeout sending config -requests

Hey gnashley I am using pppsetup if you could send me that link to yours that would be great!

Thanks guys
Adam
