PPP problems

Hi,
I have recently installed the 2.6.1 kernel in Slack 9.1. However, my adsl connnection has stopped working (it did work with 2.4.22). When I connect the modem flashes but no connection is made. When I type 'ifconfig ppp0' I get a error message saying the device is not found. There is no problems with the Alcatel USB modem I use so I suspect it is PPP settings.

All my config files are the same as they were before I compiled the new kernel (i.e options, peer/adsl, chap-secrets, resolv.conf files are all correct) and pppd 2.4.1 is still installed. I think it might be something to do with ppp devices not being installed.

Most of the ppp devices have been removed form my /dev directory I think. When I do 'ls *ppp*' in /dev I do not get ppp0 ppp1 etc. devices. I have tried './MAKEDEV ppp' and './MAKEDEV ppp0' but it doesn't work and gives me an error.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Tom.

Well, I'd say put your 9.1 install disk in and reinstall the ......devs-2.3.1 package...........it's in the "A" directory.
