PPP problem need help
Hi. I just installed Slackware 10.1. after installation, I did run pppsetup, gave my isp-phone number, username, password etc.
The external modem connected to com1(ttyS0). When I try the "ppp-go", nothing display and the modem did nothing. I also could not find any record at /var/log/message. But at /dev, there were ttyS0 and ttyS1 present. What is the problem and how can I sort it out? Do note that when use Windows at same PC, the modem work well for Internet. Just I change the harddisk using the Slackware, some problem happen now. Any advice? Thank you in advance. |
give the output of
#lspci did u installl modem driver? |
Have you attempted to run minicom? Or in the graphical universe, if you've installed kde, kppp can query the modem and tell you (or not) information... When I first installed slack 10.1, I setup my internet connectivity with just kppp, not using pppsetup at all, and it worked.
Long and short story, make sure the modem exists, perhaps test out the modem step by step with minicom. Also, do you have permission (with your login) to interface with the modem? That can cause concerns too. |
Thank you, ankscorek and ille.pugil42
thank you for your reply. I found my installation had so much problem so that I formatted it and install it again. This time I selected FULL install. the problem disappear. I am able to use the external modem now.
