What really could be better in Slackware?
The thing is, the team picked carefully those packages that _are_ maintainable and built them in a pile that's now an OS.
Anything less and it would severely be crippled to "can do all"

but i doubt it would be really any more stable/better if it just include them?

It's the basic decision they made long time back, that brought them to where they stand here.

And yes, there could be few pinches to make a easy face-lift (for example enabling lynx-like motion in MC), but fact stays it is the right distro for me to end with, just because it is the way it is.
And, whatever bothers me, I (me alone) correct it for my self, and I go on...

Slax and Logitech USB Wireless Mouse stops
 

I recently downloaded the Slax distro, burned the ISO to CD and gave it a test drive. About 15-20 minutes into the test drive the Logitech wireless mouse became non functional. The keyboard (Logitech wireless also) worked, but I was down a mouse. Inserted a 'wired' USB mouse and had function for a 3-4 minutes before it too became non functional.

I've experienced this lack of function after 15-20 minutes on other flavors of linux (Ubuntu, Sabayon to name a couple)that have steered me away from this open source product because of USB mouse/keyboard has become useless.

I'm wondering about peripheral drivers for USB for these operating systems. Or perhaps the legacy technology may be better suited for linux products.

I support Windows IT as a profession.

Any suggestions for a remedy?

Slax is not, and is significantly different from, Slackware. The similarity is mostly in name only. I don't know how to solve your mouse problem, but if it is specific to the kernel version in Slax (for example), then this is not the proper forum (nor the proper thread) to get support. Perhaps you need to pass a different option to the psmouse module, or perhaps your mouse needs a different protocol in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

I too, have multiple systems using Slackware 13.1 with wirless Logitech USB mouse and wired USB keyboards and no problems. One system is very close to your description (AMD X2..., but 2.7ghz) and has experienced no problems.

The only USB mouse problem I ever encountered was solved by setting a USB option in the CMOS config. I do not remember exactly what it was, but you might look for USB device options in your CMOS and experiment.

Second, it's rude to hijack a thread. This belongs in Linux - General, Linux - Hardware or Linux - Distributions since Slax doesn't have a formal forum here on LQ.

Third, you did verify the download ISO and burnt image?

It is difficult for us to determine the nature of your issue as we do not support Slax here. If you want to continue to run Slax you may wish to log-in to their support forums.
You could perhaps try out Slackware 13.1 on your PC; in my experience Slackware has exceptional hardware detection. :)

Logitech USB Wireless Mouse stops ... if it does that on Sabayon and Ubuntu + Slax, chances are its the hardware... !

I have been using slackware for a while, I tried other linux distros afterwards, and did not appreciate them as much as slackware, and of course went back. Maybe I did not give the other ones a chance. I found slackware the easiest to use over all, regarding the ability to set up according to my hardware. What I found most difficult about slackware is... and it may be me im not sure, so I am blaming it on slackware ;). I spend more time looking for information to do things i dont know, or things i forgot how. then I do actually doing them. Google is my friend and yet it is also a thorn in the side, when looking for information. I know my reply is late but i really wanted to state my 2 cents, from a noob's point of view.

The perfect first post... the topic is "Post something that you do not like about slackware". Well, Slackware does not have Gnome. So, did you mean that you don't like that Gnome is not part of Slackware?

Check out the work that the good people from GSB do. Gnomeslackbuild is a solid version of Gnome for Slackware.

Slack doesn't have Gnome out of the box. 13.37

(or more specifically, lack of openjdk6 package choice. I guess i could build it, but never seemed to compile in the past. HOpefully someone could come up with a slackbuild script for openjdk :))
