Post-Install ... How Do I proceed?

Hi guys! ... and don't laugh at this one

I have successfully installed Slack once with 2.6 kernel and nvidia.

The other day I thought I should install Slack again. All goes well until I do the last-time-reboot. Then I log in as root in the terminal. I create the users ... but then what ??? I could'nt make the GUI to load a.k.a KDE.

If there's someone who's willing to go thru the last steps with me (you could call it "hold-my-hand"), I promise I'll write down (and save) every single character this time

xwmconfig to choose the desktop env (KDE, Gnome etc)
startx to start the Xserver.
But.... did you run xf86config first???

All I have done right now is:

* finish the installation
* reboot
* log in as root
* created users

... nothing more. In what order should I proceed?

next step would be, as root type
xf86config and configure your display
adapter, and monitor ...
then type
xwmconfig to select your desired desktop environment
after that you will go back to prompt and type
startx
