Hi all! I know this is an old post, but I was trying to use it on my fresh slackware64-current (14.2 RC1 at the moment)
It looks like it is working when booting. I get the splash screen but after that I get an error related to the 'setterm -clear rest' line.
It says: argument error: rest
Which is a bit strange as according to the man page it is still a valid argument. When I try the command on the console, it also produces this error.
Anybody know what is wrong and/or if this splashscreen setup is still working on 14.2 RC 1. Or is there a new way to accomplish it?

I've gotten it to work, but it is a bit awkward at times and can error if you aren't careful. The initrd is rather small and doesn't get in the way, which is nice.
I played around with making lilo display a graphic boot splash screen and yeah it was a bit finicky with size and position but it was only an exercise because who in their right mind actually wants to dispense with watching the kernel load, let alone booting to Runlevel 3 which , thanks to Patrick's wisdom, experience and good judgment has Slackware defaulting to the practical rather than the fad of the moment. If you really want a splash boot I think it is much easier and more adaptable to use grub or better, grub2. Me, I prefer Lilo and text boot to CLI.

As the original designer of this I must say that I'm suprised anyone is using it now or that it even still works!
It was written mostly as a proof of concept back for Slackware 13.1 ( I think ), there are probably better ways of doing this now but as alas I no longer use slackware I can't really; offer any advice, except maybe it's not a good idea to necro post
P.S.
Nice video and wiki.
