this maybe something you have already tried.. but have you tried making it executable??

chmod +x squake
chmod +x glquake
chmod +x quake.x11

I discovered, that to run squake, you need to install libc.so.5, which is contained in the package shlibs5 under SuSE, as it's an older library than is available by default in recent distributions,
