Pkgtool: Command not found
 

On my dual Pentium III web/ftp server running Slack 10.1 with a 2.6 kernel, I logged on via SSH and started a full swaret upgrade. I get home later that night after the upgrade finished and log on and try to do something with pkgtool:

I get the same thing when I try to run swaret, installpkg, or pretty much anything else related to packages. I looked in /sbin for pkgtool and had no luck. This was about two months ago, and I am just now getting around to needing packagetool again to update to 10.2. Is there anything to be done before I just break down and reformat and install 10.2 from scratch? I guess it goes to show "Don't fix it if it ain't broke!"

Who did you log on as? Did you use su to become root before trying pkgtool?

I was root both times. The most puzzling thing was that all of this worked before. This wasn't out of the ordinary in any way. (except for the whole breaking my computer part!) Thanks

You could always reinstall the "pkgtools" package.

Is there a way to install a package without packagetool?

boot off the cd and install it

Oh! OK, as soon as I get my CDs back I'll let you know what happened.

You could also untar the package and place the files manually.

Well that fixed it, ftp'd it, and untarred from the root directory. Really bizzare though.
