PHP with LDAP-support

I'm using Horde, IMP and Turba for webmail and address-book, and I want to add an LDAP-addressbook to it (on Slackware 9.0). This doesn't work, because PHP with Slackware doesn't seem to be compiled with ldap-support. Now I'm wondering: do I need to recompile the package with LDAP-support or is there another (easier) way to add LDAP-support to PHP?

Compiling PHP seems to be rather tricky because of dependencies; does anyone have experience with that?

PHP doesn't really have any dependencies. It's one of the easiest programs I ever compiled. The help file in the download and the other documentation is very thorough.

If you are missing anything the configure program will tell you.
