Im not worried about security.. I didnt switch to linux cause of that.. In windows i didnt have a firewall or antivirus.. Security is on the low end of requirements for stuff to me..
I like control i like to customize my system.. I like the free software. I like the help i get when i need it. I like that i can do stuff to my system to improve it and change it like i can install bootsplash.. Overall its a better system...
I agree with your choice, but you should don't take for wind the linux foundations you can do a lot of nice visual thing but it is realy nothing comparable to the background/underground power.

do you know that your computer can be used for DoS attacks if somebody breaks in and gets root access?
Well then i guess i would redo my comp like the other hundred times i have... It gives me something to do.. Lets see ive reinstalled windows at least 20 times. Linux at least 30... So hmm.. Who cares...

So my horn doesn't work, and I'm out of break-fluid... but my car can
travel at 150mph...
One time I corrupted my libc installation (mean nothing work lol) and I needn't reinstall linux for that, just copy correct files from the second slackware cd (bootable). With windows you just need not only reinstall it every summer but format the fragmented drive too.

Your victims might. I would.

I can partially understand that attitude, death by linux abuse! But then my linux computer that I 'experiment' with is not connected to the 'net or any other computer so it really does not matter what I do with it, the risk is all mine to take.
Maybe you can use a safe and secure (like a windows machine as I do) computer for normal use, and just get some cheap second hand hardware for mucking about with?

Well, generally I wouldn't suggest this, but if you don't care about security and just want it fast, why not put the su command in ~/.bash_login?
If security is no concern, you could simply change /etc/suauth to have in it:
Code:
root:Your username here:NOPASS
(Note: This step will need to be done as root)
and then put in ~/.bash_login:
Code:
su
(Note: This step will have to be done logged in as the intended user, unless of cause you replace ~ with the path to the intended user's home directory)
Hope that helps ya (And I also hope you never plug this thing into the net with these kinds of settings )
Cause i don't want to su..I'm the only user on the PC.. If linux gets ****** up ill reinstall it i don't care. .* Im not worried about security.. I didnt switch to linux cause of that.. In windows i didnt have a firewall or antivirus.. Security is on the low end of requirements for stuff to me.
Fsckin up your box is your problem. Fsckin up your box getting it compromised will be a problem for others. You will not use Linux and disregard security. Please use Linux like it's intended or dont use Linux at all. And that goes for all you people who have offered tweaks in this thread that undermine Linux security.
Look I have never worried about security.. I reformat my harddrive for reasons every couple of months anyways... I do it for a few reasons.. Getting rid of any spammers that might have taken over my pc.. And because it was windows so reinstalling it made it work better again...
If you really have this attitude towards Linux and security in general I can only feel sorry for you. Maybe you're just too young to understand or why are you so ignorant and stupid? Moreover, you say 'thank you' if you get help and try to be polite to other people. Haven't your momma told you anything? Then again, maybe this thread is all a joke to give people a good laugh?
How you can be so completely ignorant of the security risks people are trying to tell you is beyond me. Its not about your machine its about you becoming a DoS zombie or worse because your too lazy to do things right and causing problems for other people. You like the idea of your machine being used to attack websites because you cant be bothered with the extra what, 15-20 keystrokes (im assuming a real root password not blank as you probably left it)?
Honestly Tinksters right you need destroy any copies of linux that you have and return to the Windows world where your kind is slightly safer.
For the bazillionth time its been stated in all linux forums and newsgroups..
Logging in as root for a regular user, giving users root UID, setting passwordless root, all these things are CRIMINALLY STUPID.
