Performance on my WUSB100 v2 RangePlus (RALINK 3070)
Hi all,
For starters: this is my device when looked up on lspci:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1737:0078 Linksys WUSB100 v2 RangePlus Wireless Network Adapter [Ralink RT3070]
(btw: iirc this RT3070 report used to be RT2870 as far as I remember - limited braincells available however)
I upgraded to Slackware 13.37 from 13.1, but with a different kernel: 2.6.34, which I currently am still running.
The issue at hand: When I upgraded earlier to 13.37's 2.6.37 kernel, I noticed the default module (rt2870usb) that got loaded upon plugging this device performed horribly. So, I did my research and found out that the staging driver (rt2870sta) performed much better. It does so to my liking well enough for now.
I also noticed that in kernel 2.6.36 (iirc, could be 2.6.38) the staging driver got removed. Now I am pretty loathe to try this kernel and any later kernels without "my" preferred driver. So, I thought: why not ask around here:
Anyone who has good experience on this device using a newer kernel (than 2.6.34)? Or would I do better and either stay like this or get myself another device (and deal with all the horrors I'll receive from my wife for spending bucks on hardware once more)
