PCMCIA Wireless Card Help! [Suggestions for Buying]

I was wondering what would be the best PCMCIA wireless card to get for slackware 10.1, kernel 2.4.29.

It would be nice if i could just plug it in and it would work fine and support AP scanning right out of the box. Anyone have any suggestions?
TIA!

If you want it to work out of the box, you need a Orinoco or Prism card.

There are many cards out there that have open source drivers too though. I have had great luck with my RT8180 card (cost me $4).

Hi,

That is a open ended question! Firts what machine will you be using the pcmcia card in?

If it is an older laptop or desktop with pcmcia interface in it there will be some problems with certain chipsets. RTL8180 on some older IBMs' can be a pain to setup. Some may require ndiswrapper to get them working by using winxp or win2k drivers.

I agree that Prism or Orinoco based are generally easier to setup.

You could do a google or HCL on LQ to get vast amounts of information on this subject!

HTH!

Hi,

As I stated then a pcmcia based on the Prism or Orinoco will probably be your best bet.
