PCMCIA not working [SOLVED]

I'm trying to get a wireless network card (SMC 2435W) to work on my Slackware 10.1 install. I have both 16 and 32 bit PCMCIA built into my kernel (2.6.11r7) but I get "cardmgr[1468]: no sockets found!" during boot. I have the card inserted but nothing happens. Any thoughts?

If you do
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 up
do the lights come on? Did you install pcmcia_cs when you installed the packages? Is hotplug turned on?

How did you solve it? Someone else may have the same problem, it would help them and the community if you could post up your solution.
