Patch help request to Restore mount to /media vs /run/media

There is a thread at:
for restoring the mount point to /media versus /run/media by using one of two patches submitted by jtsn.

A later posting states "Thank you jtsn, it worked like a charm !!!"

But, begin new to Slackware that leaves me wondering what exactly should I do? Will everyone be required to do this until a future upgrade fixes it, or will the patch be more or less permanent in Slackware 14?

If I were to apply the patch, how would I go about it? Will someone please take a few minutes to make a logical sequence of events with the appropriate commands so the less experienced can follow their documented steps.

I've been digging, searching, and reading on patching, but this is a bit over my head.
