I was wondering where can I find the patches for PAM to apply them to the Slack standard kernel 2.4.26? or if PAM is already inlcuded in the kernel, where in the configuration can I find PAM?
IIRC Pat doesn't like PAM, so there's no provision for it in Slackware. The Dropline Gnome project seems to have gone all the way to include them in Slackware because they are needed for Gnome; maybe you can find something suitable there.

Crap, thanks for the info. I'm planning out an upgrade to Enlightenment DR17 and Entrance, the display manager for Enlightenment, lists PAM as a requirement. I was about to try to install PAM from source but don't want to end up with a system to which I can't login.
Has any successfully installed PAM on a Slackware system from source?
PAM is not a requirement, but a recommendation for Entrance.
You can use it via the shadow password system without any problem.
So far I've been logging with this option. No trouble on my fresh 10.1 Slackware.
If you want to spare yourself the cvs trouble, go get the linuxpackages.net binaries of E17.
There are of good quality.
And ,as regards Entrance, shadow password is enabled by default.

PAM is not really a requirement for the GNOME desktop. You can build the whole GNOME desktop without PAM. That's a Dropline's choice to use PAM for its GNOME version.
