PAM

Shocker ...

extra/google-chrome/google-chrome-pam-solibs-1.1.3-x86_64-1.txz: Added.
This is libpam.so.0, needed to make beta and unstable builds of Chrome happy.
PAM's first appearance here. I should have had this ready on Friday, sorry.

It may be a good time to consider PAM sometime after this release, but
it's almost never a good time for selinux.

But what about SCAM?

Quote:
... Please indulge me for this brief aside (as requests for PAM are on the rise):
If you see a security problem reported which depends on PAM, you can be
glad you run Slackware. I think a better name for PAM might be SCAM, for
Swiss Cheese Authentication Modules, and have never felt that the small
amount of convenience it provides is worth the great loss of system
security. We miss out on half a dozen security problems a year by not
using PAM, but you can always install it yourself if you feel that
you're missing out on the fun. (No, don't do that)
OK, I'm done ranting here. :-)

The world is changing.

Patrick, your still "The Man". Thanks for all you do.

Well, yeah. 7,5 years equals many lifetimes when it comes to technology.

I get the feeling a lot of upstream code doesn't get built/tested on non-PAM systems all that much (if at all) and should Slackware continue to take the execution path least travelled then it is likely to increasingly trip over bugs that don't hit the other distros

Pat's decision to avoid PAM made good sense in the past, but IMO the time has come.

This is one of the things that I like best about Slackware. Being a late adopter beats being an early adopter by miles when it comes to a lot of this stuff.
