borked restore of partition sda9.
partition layout as follows:
sda7 slack14-32 root
sda8 slack14-32 home
sda9 slack14-64 root
sda10 slack14-64 home
I can start windows and slack14-32
all partitions except sda9 can be mounted
GParted shows sda as unallocated: overlapping partitions.
One way to repair is backup all mountable partitions, restore
the partition table with GParted and write back the partitions.
Other possibilities, requiring less work?
Thanking you in advance.
Do any of the other tools open the partition table - "fdisk -l" ? Maybe cfdisk ?.
You may be able to get away with merely deleting /dev/sda9.
Thank you sygOO.
fdisk shows the partition table.
Not familiar with fdisk, but with command a one can delete a partition.
To be certain, I'll make some backups before using fdisk.
The only easy fix is if you ABSOLUTELY know the starting and ending blocks for each partition. You can delete the overlapping partition(s), and use fdisk to re-create them and put in the start and end for each partition. Write the table, reboot and all should be good.
Solved overlapping partitions
Thank you all!
Could restore partition table with fdisk
