OpenOffice in Slack 9's gnome

i'm curious to see if anyone has had this problem before. i originally installed openoffice in kde, using the installer that came with it. that worked fine, and it integrated itself into kde quite nicely (ie it made a little submenu for itself off of the main menu). i switched to gnome a couple of weeks ago (for a variety of reasons to complicated to get into here). openoffice is now nowhere to be found. the only way i've gotten it to run in gnome is by running the x-sh scripts in the OO directory. i know that kde can be somewhat imperialistic sometimes, so i uninstalled it then reinstalled it using gnome (making sure to install the package in the OO installer labled "gnome integration"), with the same outcome. any thoughts?

Where did you find "package in the OO installer labled "gnome integration""???
I installed OO exactly as described in their instruction, and it never offered me "gnome integration" during install. Maybe I missed something?
Another distros (like Mandrake) have built in some kind of automatic uniwersal menu system, then menus look the same in all WM's, and you can add entries "centrally".
Maybe this can be implemented also in Slack?
Anyway, after install I also had only entries in KDE menu, I added it to Gnome manually.
Is there any better way?
Excuse me, if too many questions.
