You need to be root to run installpkg.

Gethyn,
I got that far, but for some reason, when I log in as root, I cannot navigate to where I downloaded the OO package. The directories do not exist. Do I also have to fire up the GUI for this to work? Viną |
No, you shouldn't need a GUI. Are you *sure* you're looking in the right place for the downloaded package?

I had a similar problem with the missing libraries, here's what was wrong:
rpm2tgz uses /tmp when converting package formats. If there is not enough space in /tmp, then rpm2tgz will silently fail, leaving off a few of those required libraries. See this thread for more details: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=373479 -elyk |
Gethyn,
I found everything, and I'm a little embarassed about my last post. I'm still not sure what designation to give myself; "newbie" seems much too far advanced. As of a couple weeks ago, "bash" was the name of a street that runs parallel to I-69 on the NE side here in Indianapolis. Right now (and this is for a different post a different day), I'm having difficulty w/ the "installpkg" command (logged in as root) when attempting to install (among other things) Wine (using all manner of download sites, installation versions, and packages). Gad, what have I gotten myself into? Learning to ride a motorcycle was easier than this. Still, I'll stay the course long enough to give big brother Gates his final one-finger salute. Thank you, Viną |
