openoffice 2.0.1 problems

Help, Help!

I just spend ALL DAY yesterday (dial up connection) downloading openoffice 2.0.1 in linux format from the main openoffice site, only to learn that 109 MB download was in rpm format.

AARGH!

Why didn't they label the download appropriately, and why didn't they just leave it plain vanilla like 1.0?

Is there any way that I can proceed with rpm installation on slack?

Edit,

I just tried rpming my download and got these failed dependencies:

Code:
/bin/sh is needed by openoffice.org-core10-2.0.1-1
libgnomevfs-2.so.0 is needed by openoffice.org-gnome-integration-2.0.1-1
libgconf-2.so.4 is needed by openoffice.org-gnome-integration-2.0.1-1

Thanks a million!

Hi

Have you tried rpm2tgz? After that you should be able to run installpkg.

Don't know about the dependencies though.

Trying now. I executed the rpm2tgz command and I haven't gotten a prompt back yet.

The first failed dependency msg is a lie! I do have /bin/sh on my system!

It worked!

A million kisses to you!!!

Edited to add: to avoid the failed dependency problem, I did not untar the gnome integration part of OpenOffice.

I avoided the entire fiasco by downloading from www.linuxpackages.net . I never had a real problem from there, as long as I use the readmes.

Just a note for next time: Those dependancy issues mean nothing, rpm isn't the usual way to install software so the rpm has very little registered packages.

You may or may not have the required packages, either way rpm will not know about it unless you install every package as an rpm instead of a tgz

http://slackbuild.strangeworlds.co.uk/ooo/ has a "ooo.SlackBuild" script that processes the big OpenOffice download and produces a nice Slackware package out of it. No need for rpm.
