Opening PDF files with Adobe Reader in 13.37

I am a newbie with Slack and the only thing I cannot get to work is opening PDF files from browser. I have to download and then open in file system.

I am using XFCE and my better half likes KDE.

When the dialog box opens to select which program to use to open file, where is file for Adobe Reader? I am stumped.

I know I have to research and read but I cannot find the one single file to do this. Thanks and don't be too rough on me.

There are many PDF viewers available for Linux. Slackware supplies okular (a KDE application that also runs in XFCE), gv and the venerable xpdf (which requires some configuration if you want to read documents containing commonly used Microsoft fonts). You can also install other PDF viewers, including a Linux version of Adobe Reader. http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.../adobe-reader/
If you are using Firefox as your browser, then you can do Edit->Preferences->Applications->PDF file to select the default application to open PDF files.

I just changed the settings in Firefox to do what you said. Now the dialog box pops open for a split second and goes away. Is there another setting in Firefox I need to change?

Hmm- Works for me. Did you specify the complete path and filename? e.g. /usr/bin/okular

I had to set Okular in the dialog box and in Firefox preferences. I have to click OK in the dialog box everytime I open a PDF file. I am all set.

I just needed the /usr/bin/okular. I will mark this solved. I just wish the dialog box would not pop up. This will drive better half crazy. She does not appreciate being a Slacker yet!
