oops, ascii 'graphics' characters after cat /proc/kcore

I was viewing files in my /proc directory using cat.

Without realizing that kcore was 44 gazillion bytes big (since I did ls, not ls -l) and probably something I didn't actually want to view, I happily typed in cat kcore.

I immediately realized my mistake when all the characters changed to those ascii drawing type characters and started screaming off the screen. So, I hit Ctrl-C to stop it. But, the characters in the prompt and the characters I type in are all still unreadble.

This in in CLI mode, no startx. I can Alt-F2 and get a good terminal, but Alt-F1 remains unreadable. Is there a way to restore that terminal without rebooting? I can still log in using ESP and slight of hand to Alt-F1, so if there was a command I could type in directly after logging in... or, I could do it from Alt-F2 if it's possible.

thanks...

try typing
reset <ENTER>
in the puckarooed terminal ... usually fixes it ;)

If it doesn't, just do ps -A from F2, and kill
the bash with the lower PID ....

Cheers,
Tink
