Question Odd behavior: Cannot start plasma 5 in a laptop after unplugging an external monitor

Greetings fellow slackers.

First of all, let me say that I'm using Slackware64-current, fully updated, with alienBOB's Plasma 5 desktop environment.

My hardware is a Toshiba Radius p55w-b5318, almost new. It uses Intel HD integrated graphics.

I would like to report a very odd behavior I experienced. In sum, I was unable to boot the Plasma 5 environment. This is what happened:

1. From Monday through Friday, I used the laptop at the office, with an external monitor plugged in.

2. On Friday, I stayed home but brought the laptop. There, despite all my efforts, I could not start Plasma Desktop.

Reading the startx output, it is not clear whether the inability to start Plasma was due to a) because kdeinit5 was unable to connect to the contents of the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR or because kdeinit5 or klauncher crashed too early during the startup process. I am pasting the combined stdout & stderr output of startx of one of those failed Plasma starts at the bottom of the post.

I tried to get help in IRC in order to understand what happened to no avail, despite the genuine desire to help of people.

3. I could not start Plasma during all weekend. I had to settle myself to use Xfce.

4. Today (Monday) I came back to the office. I plugged my monitor. Just out of curiosity, I tried to start Plasma again and behold! It started normally. I'm using it now.

Thus, it seems like I now must have an external monitor plugged in order to successfully start Plasma!

I'm puzzled as to what would the cause of this situation, or a workaround. Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

Have you tried yet, to create a fresh new user account to see if the problem occurs for new users as well? Could be that something in your homedirectory's configuration files is causing this.
I use my laptop with Slackware64-current and Plasma 5 at home, and at work. At work I plugin an extra monitor, like you. I never had any issues with that.
At some point in your error log, powerdevil seems to lose connection with ConsoleKit:
Code:
powerdevil: The session is not registered with ck
and that seems to be the point where things go wrong.
