nvidia nforce ethernet card, enabling it?

Afternoon all.

to cut a long story short my realtek NIC died and I am now having to use my onboard NIC on my Abit NF7-s rev2.0 (nforce 2 chipset) motherboard.

The onboard NIC does work and is enabled (using it now under windows 2000) And I have installed the Linux nforce driver which was all fine.

but I am having difficulty selecting the NIC under slackware 10.1 - kernel 2.4.29. In the readme it states that I need to configure my /etc/modules.conf file and then it has this bit

If your configuration file already contains an entry for the forcedeth driver (an open-source network driver that supports the nForce network controller), that entry needs to be commented out with a # or removed:

# alias eth0 forcedeth

Add the following line to the configuration file:

alias eth0 nvnet

If your system has multiple ethernet interfaces, you may need to use 'eth1' or higher in place of 'eth0'.

I'm pretty much confused and lost as to what exactly I have to do. Can someone please help me out here?

Well, my modules.conf looks like this:

alias char-major-195 nvidia

alias char-major-89 i2c-dev

Add that line "alias eth0 nvnet" to the end of yours. You have to be root to do this.

Many thanks goes out to you WMD. Looking back at it now and re-reading I feel quite an idiot as its so simple now.

I can't put the blame on anything else apart from my own nerve-ness of breaking my slackware.

How to activate NVidia nForce Networking Controlled ?

I have installed Slackware 12 (full method)on my laptop (Pckard Bell EASYNOTE MV51-B-018)and it is not working network.
I can't activate my NVidia nForce Networking Controller
I tried to find modules.conf file but I dont have any /etc/modules.conf...What should I do?

When I tried under X toactivate it says an error that I have to do it manually.... I can't find any driver to match my card (here are specification to my laptop
