NVIDIA legacy driver 96.43.07 fails install on Kernel 2.26.27.6 in current

Dropping back to kernel 2.6.24.7. From the install log a file asm/semaphore.h is missing. Comparison with a successful install on kernel 2.6.26.5 in Fedora 8 shows that warnings about items in other header files don't stop the successful compilation. I will also post on the NVIDIA forum where they have a 96.43.09 drive in beta.

http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12...gacy96-kernel/ <-- there's a patch in that directory that should work.

While the patch is labeled for the96.43.07 driver, internally the file references are to 173.14.12. Using it as a template leads to the changes for the 96.43.07 driver, but a simple change all sequence is not sufficient. The revised driver is installed and working at this time. I'm not sure how confident I am in it.

The reference is broken. It loops back on itself.

That patch was taken directly from nvnews forum, where other users have tested it and reported success. So it obviously worked fine for some people. If you feel unconfident about the patch, you can still search for a better one or use the beta driver. (The link works here...)
