I have run the nvidia driver and followed the prompts and completed the install setup. Rebooted into GUI and tried to run glxgears as I have been advised to - and I am trying to check the performance but I get the error:
root@holly-desktop:~# glxgears
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.
root@holly-desktop:~#
I have checked the documentation from nvidia and this tells me to replace (in xorg.conf):
Driver "vesa"
with
Driver "nvidia";
I then reboot and my system shows:
'...Starting X Session'
but then my linux box hangs. Booting into Mandriva2006 I replace 'nvidia' with 'vesa' in my slackware11 '/etc/X11/xorg.cong' partition and I can reboot into slackware11 OK.
Hello there
We might need some more information like:
What videocard do you have (output of lspci -v | grep -i vga) ?
What driver version are you using?
What's the output of glxinfo | grep direct (whilst running X)?
It may be related to the driver version that you are using, as mentioned by raska. From what you have posted in relation to your video card being 32 MB, this would not be supported with the newer version of the Nvidia driver. Is this an original GeForce 256 in your computer? If this is the case, you will have to download the legacy driver for Linux from Nvidia's site. Just one possibility.
