no ... that didn't work

i'm thinking that i will just end up, re-installing, as it turns out there are some other things i really need to do with my system configs... is there a way to install the 2.6 kernel INSTEAD of the 2.4 off the cd? even just install everything off ftp..

why should you reinstall, you can also use the standard nvidia-driver ?
( the name is " nv " )

before you reinstall, i would try a different version of the nvidia driver. there have been some problems with 2.6.x kernels and the newest drivers iirc.

no thats not the problem either, i couldnt' get ANY of the driver versions to install.. i tried every one of them relesed in 2004.

already started my gentoo install... slack is the best OS for my laptop, but i am still testing distro's to use for the future. =D

I have tried installing nvidia and it (installation) worked. I first upgradpkg'ed the kernel source (instead of just installing it), and then installed nvidia. But I had a problem with nvidia (root display didn't refreshed) and eventually changed to "nv" happily.
