nvidia 6106 drivers on 2.6.7, screen goes blank after startx

I installed nvidia's graphics drivers for my PCI GeForce MX440, but everytime after I start X after changing my xorg.conf file, the screen goes blank. I looked around and someone said that it was probably because my monitor couldn't detect the signal or whatever, so...

i'm lost.

Also, is there any way to get OpenGL (GLX) without enabling nvidia's drivers?

I had the same problem, but realised that if I rebooted the PC, everything works fine. I think they must have changed something about the drivers coz before you didn't have to reboot for changes to take effect.

a friend had a very similar problem on Mandrake. The solution was:

depmod -a

followed by a reboot. Hope this helps; it's worth a try. reetep.
