novfs on slackware 10.2: Kern-2.4.31

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could give some indications as to how to proceed with this, I have all novell tools now installed Consoleone and rconj etc. But this seems a little more involved, i guess i may need too compile the kernel i am not worried about doing this. however this will be a first time for me to add in support for another file system. I have done a search and have found very little on novfs and slackware i have downloaded the client and have used the rpm2tgz utility. Having looked at the install script i have my head around eveything but the novfs section the novfs deamon i believe can be converted to the bsd init scripts format easily enougth.

Any help would be great

I am thinking that all i need to achieve the bsd standard is something like this in the rc.modules.

if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.novfsd ]; then
. /etc/rc.d/rc.novfsd start
fi

Their is a novfs script in the rpm package looks like it will play the role of novfsd with minimal fuss. My first headache i think is writing a configure script for the novfs modules i have now unpacked them and am looking at how the basic make file is put together. I somehow need to modify that for my environment then run it. Then recompile my kernel, with novfs support. what i am not sure of is if it will work i am using the client version 1.0 from the suse 9.3 build not the client from the suse 10 build version 1.1. if i fail to get it working, i can resort to ncpfs on sourceforge or setup the netware servers to export via nfs. But i lose wonderfull utilities such as salvage files etc.

Sorry, can't help getting NCL working on Slack but if you are looking for alternatives, there's always CIFS (NFS can be a security nitemare).. you could also have a look at using LDAP to auth against eDir and perhaps using LUM. But as you mentioned before, you will not get some of the cooler NCL features such as salvage.

Course you could always switch to NLD or SuSEx :-P
