Angry Not again

Well I was bored and so I decided to go ahead and go from Slackware 10 to 10.2. Installed without any problems, everything works, except now I don't have DRI anymore, and I can't figure out why.... I am using the generic radeon driver just like I was in 10.0, and this is what I have under xorg.conf

I didn't expect to run into something as simple as this again, because technically this was resolved in Slack10.0 for me, so I don't know why its popping up it's ugly head again.

Code:
# This loads the GLX module
    Load "glx"
# This loads the DRI module
    Load "dri"
Graphics section
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Radeon"
    Driver "radeon"
    #VideoRam 65536
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection
And of course way at the end of the file
Code:
EndSection

 Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666
 EndSection
But this is the output of glxinfo
Code:
slackuser@slacker:~$ glxinfo

How about /var/log/Xorg.0.log? That will tell us more...look for (EE) and (WW) entries

Ok, these are all the (WW) and (EE) entries from Xorg.0.log

Code:
(WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/".
	Entry deleted from font path.
	(Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/").
(WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/".
	Entry deleted from font path.
	(Run 'mkfontdir' on "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/").
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such device)
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module xtt
(EE) Failed to load module "xtt" (module does not exist, 0)
(WW) RADEON(0): Failed to detect secondary monitor, MergedFB/Clone mode disabled
(WW) (1792x1344,GatewayVX700) mode clock 204.8MHz exceeds DDC maximum 180MHz
(WW) (1856x1392,GatewayVX700) mode clock 218.3MHz exceeds DDC maximum 180MHz
I somehow don't think this will be of any help

what is your Xorg version? the latest Xorg version (6.9.0) is having problem with DRI in kernel 2.4. Here is Pat's note in the -current changelog

Quote:
Upgraded to X11R6.9.0.
For those who may not be aware, this is is the exact same code base as X11R7.0.0, but is packaged as the traditional single source archive using the imake build system. Also, note that this still rightly (IMHO) contains freetype-2.1.9. The newer release of freetype (2.1.10) removed some functions that various applications use -- I'm hoping that these will be restored. Finally, the kernel interface for direct rendering (DRI) seems to have changed, and direct rendering with X11R6.9.0 only works on my machines with a 2.6 kernel. I spent several days trying to produce working DRM kernel modules for Linux 2.4.32, but to no avail, so if you're still using a 2.4 kernel you'll want to edit your xorg.conf so that the dri module is not loaded or you'll likely corrupt your display requiring a reboot. I've tested this only with ATI cards and the open source drivers. Perhaps the binary drivers from ATI or nVidia would work.

Hint: use better thread titles in the future. "Oh no, not again" is a topic sure to be ignored by many. Something like "x.org broken on slackware 10.0-10.2 upgrade" is a smarter title.

You need to enable bit banging to get direct rendering:
DeviceDrivers->I2C Support->Algorithms->Enable bit banging

And of course you read the ChangeLog before upgrading your system Pat explains the problem there.
