Red face Non English Keyboard

Hi,

I have a non US keyboard....German_CH, i selected the perfect keyboard map when i was installing Linux and it works just fine..but that is as long as i do not "startx" as soon as i run KDE or GNOME and try to use one of the xterms the keyboard input is US and this is really annoying.

Secondly, does anybody use latex out there....I am try to draw some math. graphics with it. Its seems that manual i have is not compatible with the version of the Latex commands i am running on slack...Can someone give me a link to where i can find the manual to the manual on latex....in ps or pdf?

Also, has anyone noted that the vi editor commands listed in the slackware essentials book are not exactly precise?

hej xmeson. Jag hade samma problem som dig. Jag tar det på engelska eftersom du hade tyskt tangentbord???

Hello.

when u startx in kde you'll automatically by default uses American k-bords.
to fix this simple but annoying problem just go to the control center.
(you'll find it at "start/setting/control center")
Now choose Regional & Accessibility then Keybord Layout.
now on the right side you'l have to mark "Enable keybord layouts"
now u got 3 significant options in the configuration square.
choose German if u like so or russian if ya wanna see some fun.
as default keybord model is set to 104-key.
i had to set it to 105-key to get some keys to work.

Hope it solved your problem.

I have about the same problem, but since I don't use KDE or Gnome I don't really use those control centers...

In Fluxbox I added a menu entry which starts the following command:

setxkbmap be

which sets my keyboard map to Belgian layout.

But I agree on using the KDE control center (or the button on the Gnome panel) when using those desktopmanagers ...

EDIT:
while fiddling with XF86Config I noticed an option to do this too ... (stupid me, should have figured it out earlier )

in the keyboard's InputDevice section, add this line:

Option "XkbLayout" "be"

to get the same result ...
