No Splashimage support in grub

Decided to try out GRUB on my system. I used the Slackware package and installed, ran the grubconfig and everything went great until I decided to install a splashimage. I need some help with this. I checked out the available command options and it doesn't look like the slackware package which is version 0.97 supports this but from what I can find it should. The information I have found is very confusing since I'm new to GRUB so some basic explanations of what may need to be done would be very helpful.

splash image support has never been an interest of the grub devs. You'll have to patch it yourself.

http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/grub/

Read the spec file there. That will give you a start on how to proceed.
