No Sound in Wolfenstein: ET

I'm running Slackware 10.2 with a 2.4 kernel. My sound is onboard and runs perfectly with Xine or XMMS or any other media player. It also plays system sounds without trouble. But I get no sound at all coming from Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. What can I do, where should I look to find where the blockage is and remove it?

Try the follow from a terminal and then run ET:
Code:
echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
If this fixes your problem, add it to the end of /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

Thanks but it didn't work. Tried the command but didn't have permission. So I SU-ed it and then launched ET but there was still no sound. Which files if any should I go looking around in to find the solution? I'm not sure where to start.

try this, it worked in the past for me (but that was a long timew ago):

1. start et on console : et +set s_driver oss

2. If 1 is nogo > try to set the system audio to oss or alsa and try again
open the et config file and enter : s-driver best to the entries

good luck

I highly recommend what delta function said about +set s_driver, I've used this for other id games in the past. The other thing you'll want to look at is the permissions in /dev/. Check out /dev/dsp to make sure normal users can read it. That was the final problem for me back when Quake 3 wasn't producing sound.

Welcome to et. I have been playing this for a while. However, since I am using a dial-up connection, on-line play is worthless, so I have to play with 'bots'.

Anyway, to answer the question:

If you are in a gnome session, $ et should work.

Since you are having problems, I assume you are using kde, or something else.

The command to start et in this case is $ artsdsp -m et.

et wants alsa and kde uses arts. The command above somehow gets arts to work like alsa.

If you are interested in playing with bots, may I suggest omni-bot. (Watch out, the bots will get you with 'head shots' when you cannot even see them.

Good Luck!
