No sound in recordmydesktop

I have installed recordmydesktop from /extras. Video is fine but when I play the out.ogv file with mplayer I get an error - could not find codec and there is no sound.

Should I be installing jackd to get sound working?

If you're using ALSA, make sure the "Capture" (and possibly "Mix") setting in alsamixer displays "CAPTUR" above the setting (you can use the space bar to toggle the CAPTUR option on and off).

I did not find anything to change in alsamixer but I am getting sound being played back now though the codec error still shows.
