"No partition table or unknown signature on partition table" 10.1 install

Hello I'm trying to install slackware 10.1 when trying to install 10.1 I get "No partition table or unknown signature on partition table" and when trying to run cfdisk I get "Opened disk read-only - you have no permission to write" which is my cdrom drive I have a gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra motherboard and a westerdigital 120gb sata drive and all topics I've found that cover sata deal with 10 not 10.1 and the thing that really puzzles me is I could install 10 just fine any help would be apreshated

//edit:i think this should have been in "Installation" sorry

which kernel do you use to boot ? ( i think you need sata.i )
and do you use " #fdisk /dev/hda " when you get that output ?

...also try " #fdisk -l ".
that will list all disks & partitions.

heh... that simple...

I had the same problem too. I couldn't fdisk /dev/hda with the ability to write, so i tried fdisk /dev/hdb, once that didn't work, I gave up and looked here...

using the above "fdisk -l" I found out that it was /dev/hdc

Thanks,

also, anyone know why /dev/hda would list a 4 gig (unwriteable) partition?
(30 gig drive, Laptop...)
