No mouse support

I installed slackware 7.1 with all the defualt packages. However, my mouse does not work.

During the install, I remember a warning about something saying installing a certain package may require a configuration change if there's a conflict with mouse, but I forgot what it said.

Where do I start?

Log as root, and try /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config
I'm almost sure the package that told you that is gpm, try: chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.gpm
to avoid gpm be loaded at boot.

Just a doubt, if you run Mandrake 10, why not run Slackware 10 or 10.1?

I'm trying various distros.

So when I ran XF86config it asked lots of questions and now I can't start X windows. It says the monitor is not configured properly.
